The intention for this trip was to continue from the turn around point of the previous Tennessee trip and continue to Florida. The group’s sag wagon frequently scouted out mini barns for sale, and asked the owners if they would allow us to sleep in them for the night. It got very cold at night so the extra shelter was appreciated. The group fell behind schedule, so on the last day of planned cycling, I decided I wanted to make up for the lost time. I burnt out and crashed into my uncle’s bike while futzing with my derailleur. I hit the pavement pretty hard, and I was not interested in continuing, so my dad and I bailed. My uncle continued and finished on schedule. The following morning, my dad and I returned to the spot where we were picked up, and finished one day late. It was an embarrassing way to end the trip but a lesson well learned about pacing oneself. After the trip, a local newspaper published an article about our trip.
